Some dogs love the rain, while others couldn’t be bribed to step a single paw outside when the ground is wet. Fortunately for one Labrador Retriever’s mama, her pup can’t get enough of the wet weather. In fact, she loves it so much that when it rains, her mom takes her to the roof of a parking garage instead of on a walk.

That’s right—this Yellow Labrador named Callie is so obsessed with rain that she gets her daily exercise splashing in the puddles and frolicking in the water. That’s precisely what she did on October 21, when Southern California was getting drenched in the first major storm of the season.

This dog’s rainy day romp is pure joy! Once I saw how happy @callie_the_labby_ was to run free in the rain, I understood exactly why her mom brought her here instead of taking their usual walk that day. Exercise is important for dogs no matter how they get it, but seeing a dog so happy is like a pure shot of dopamine.

“The coat is just to look pretty at this point,” commenter @harley.queen-k9s pointed out. It might be adorable, but it can’t help when she’s rolling her whole body in the puddles. Oh well, it’s the thought that counts!

I hope Callie’s mom has a towel (or a whole load of them) in the car, because she’ll need them after this rainy day fun. Between herself and her Yellow Lab, she’ll have a whole load of laundry to do, but it’s so worth it to give her dog her own version of Christmas morning.

Why Do Some Dogs Love Rain, While Others Hate It?

A few people shared stories of their own dogs who love rain, but dozens of others couldn’t relate. One pet parent revealed, “Usually my dog does this on the couch to dry off, but I’ve never seen the opposite,” while another said, “My water dog loves to swim… but hates the rain.”

There are many reasons a dog may not like rain, from the sensory overload of falling raindrops to the way scents change as wind and water move them around. Some canine experts believe dogs are extra sensitive to barometric pressure, too, so a slow introduction can be key when encouraging your dog to go outside in the rain.

Disliking rain isn’t unusual or a cause for concern, but it’s easy to see why pet parents wish their pups felt the same as Callie does about the weather!
